Peter was born in Eidsvold Queensland in May 1946 as second son to Bill and Irene Houston. Bill was then postmaster of the small town. At the age of four the family moved to Brisbane and for the next seventeen years Peter lived at Wilston attending Wilston State School, St Joseph’s College Gregory Terrace and the University of Queensland where Peter graduated with a Batchelor of Dental Science in early 1969. Peter is now married to Kristine an ESL teacher at Redcliffe TAFE.
They have two children”Marguerite 26yrs. a Physiotherapist and dual World Champion for Australia in the sport of Rowing  (LW Quad scull Seville, Spain 2002 and  LW Double Scull Munich, Ger., 2007)  Marguerite has now been selected to represent Australia at the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the Lightweight Women’s Double Scull (LW2X). Son David is in his final year of Dentistry at Griffith University Gold Coast. David is also a rower having won gold for Australia at the World Universities Games in Brive France in 2004. He finishes his studies in 2008.
